2. Category
MAA-NUAA is an independent*, non-political and non-profit alumni organization.
3. Aim
To maintain the contacts and enhance the communication among her members.
To bridge her members and their forever mother university - NUAA.
4. Location
MAA-NUAA is located in Metro Detroit, Michigan, USA.
5. Membership
Any individual who meets at least one of the three conditions below will, as a matter of fact, automatically
become a member of MAA-NUAA as long as he/she physically presents in the Michigan State or its
vicinity and does not decline the membership explicitly in written.
5.1 Individual who had once officially registered at NUAA as a student for undergraduate, graduate or
postdoctoral study, adult education or professional education.
5.2 Any individual who had once occupied or is occupying a position at NUAA, including visiting scholar,
visiting, adjunct or honorary professor.
5.3 Any individual who holds a degree officially issued by NUAA, including honorary degrees.
6. Rights and duties
6.1 Every member has the right to decline the membership.
6.2 Every member has equal right to vote and to be voted for any position inside MAA-NUAA.
6.3 Every member has the right to participate or not participate any activity and event organized by MAA-
NUAA.
6.4 Every member has the right to be kept informed about any activity and event organized by MAA-
NUAA, as long as he/she carries his/her duty specified by term 6.6 here after.
6.5 Every member has the right to forward proposals to and criticize on the performance of the executive
committee of MAA-NUAA.
6.6 Members are assumed the duty to send the following information to the MAA-NUAA home page
administrator: Name, Dept. at NUAA, class number (37731, e.g.) or duration at NUAA (9.1952-7.1998,
e.g.) and present communication access.
7. Organization
7.1 An executive committee of 5 members will be elected by all the MAA-NUAA members. The following
positions will be created inside the committee: one president, one vice president and one general secretary
and two committee officers among the 5 committee members.
7.2 Positions of advisor or honorary president may be created by the executive committee.
7.3 A special temporary committee may be created by the executive committee to organize important
activity or deal with special event.
8. Election and term
8.1 The executive committee will be elected once a year. The members of the executive committee will be
elected by all the MAA-NUAA members from the nominees. The nomination must take place at least two
weeks before the election day.
8.2 The candidates who receive the first five highest votes will be the members of the elected committee.
The candidate who receives the highest votes will be the elected president of MAA-NUAA, provide he/she
is not the president of the previous year. The candidate who receives the second highest votes could
become the president if and only if the candidate who receives the highest votes is the president of the
previous year or decline the responsibility of president.
In case that more than one candidates draw the same highest votes, the president will be chosen among
these candidates by the elected committee. If the president leaves his/her duty during the session for
whatever reason, the vice president will become temporary president till the next election.
8.3 The vice president and the general secretary will be nominated by the elected president inside the
committee and proved by the elected committee.
8.4 The term of the president of executive committee is one year. The same person can not be reelected
consecutively as the president. Any alumnus or alumna can be consecutively reelected and serve in the
executive committee for more than one year but no longer than three years.
9. Mission of executive committee
The mission of the executive committee will not be described in this constitution. Instead, every elected
committee bears the duty to, within 4 weeks after the election completes, document and distribute the
mission description of the committee in its session.
10. Right of explanation
The executive committee of MAA-NUAA holds the right to explain any term of this constitution.
* The MAA-NUAA could become a group member of the Society for Alumna & Alumnus of NUAA
(SAA-NUAA), shall the constitution of the SAA-NUAA not pose any political restrictions which is
incompatible with the non-political principle of MAA-NUAA.
